Worship with Deluge of rain

Sunday February 9th saw Paynesville UC Faith Community enjoying worship led by Mrs. Cathi Halliwell, pastor at Churchill UC and Convenor of the September Camps held each year at Lake Tyers. As Paynesville Church and its Friendship Shed  has donated money toward the camps for the past two years, the Congregation were keen to hear about the activities, and view the slides of the 2024 camp entitled “Breath”.
This was all proceeding swimmingly, with ‘swimmingly’ being the operative word, when a deluge of rain fell on the Church and surrounding areas such that it flooded the Friendship Shed, Furniture Shed, and the roof in the Church commenced leaking, which saw Doug and Marilyn running around with buckets to prevent any flooring or equipment damage.

The service continued however and at the conclusion, we all enjoyed a hearty lunch. By 1.30pm, it was safe for everyone to walk out to their cars without ‘wading’ through the water, which, at its height was nearly a foot deep! Much damage was sustained by some local residents near the Church which appeared to be the worst affected area. The Friendship Shed and  Furniture Shed have had to suspend trading until such time as the floors can be dried out and stock separated and dumped. Thanks, Cathi for a good service, but we hope next time it will be less eventful!
